Saturday in Jakarta

On Saturday, the Jakarta group visited Bantar Gebung, a community built at the city dump where all of Jakarta’s trash is taken.  The community makes their living as trash-pickers, finding recyclable items.  We visited a learning center with young children and their mothers, and made tie-dye shirts with them.  Students also read books and sang songs with their circle of children and mothers.

It was heartwarming watching students interact with the children and their mothers. Many students shared that the highlight of their day was a wholesome moment they shared with one of the children; a sweet connection that overcame the language barrier.
