 Today was all about adjusting to the time difference and easing into the new realities of Jakarta.  We walked to the mall, where students LOVED the indoor theme park.  After lunch, we visited the campus of SPH Karawaci.  We had a tour, then the Bandung group left with Mr Burge, while the rest of the group stayed for an orientation of the activities we will be doing with SPH students in the next few days.





















Your kids are an absolute delight to travel with.  They are so open-minded and willing to try new things.  I’ve heard several students say things like, ‘I told my mom I’d try everything I possibly could,’ and ‘I want to try everything while I am here.’  

Students were entertained by the spelling of their names on their Starbucks drinks.  Laurel’s server just gave up and gave her the marker to write her name herself 😂

 Today, students were up early to go to an SLH school, which is connected to the SPH school we are visiting, but which caters to local Indonesians at a lower income level.  Students introduced themselves in Indonesian and told everyone something they like to do.  We then had a writing workshop, and students really enjoyed getting to know the Indonesian students.  We will return to this school tomorrow for another activity.   Everyone continues to do very well, embracing the differences and new experiences.

We spent a fun (and hot!) day at a traditional Sundanese village. They enjoyed a variety of traditional activities, including playing the gamelan, playing the angklung, singing, dancing, making a puppet with cassava leaves, painting a farmer’s hat, wearing traootges, planting rice and washing a water buffalo.
